Job Description

Job Requirements

  • GED or high school diploma
  • Previous experience as a cook, baker or general worker in food service
  • ServSafe certification
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Knowledge of USDA meal pattern requirements
  • Ability to complete Unit Classes 1 through 4 or willingness to do so
  • Ability to follow instructions and take initiative
  • Good attendance record
  • Ability to work cooperatively
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Physical ability to tolerate temperature extremes and detergents

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a general worker, cook, baker or lead worker or minimum 3 years commercial cooking and/or baking experience
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and take initiative
  • Knowledge of meal pattern requirements as specified by USDA Child Nutrition Program
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and work in a fast-paced food service environment
  • Ability to learn new skills related to job duties
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and remain calm in emergencies
  • Demonstrated good organizational skills
  • Physical ability to tolerate extremes in temperature, withstand hands in water and detergents, lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to maintain accurate HACCP records including food and equipment temperature logs and food labeling
  • Completion of Unit Classes 1 through 4 or willingness to complete
  • ServSafe certification required
  • Demonstrated good attendance record

Job Duties

  • Perform skilled work in the preparation of food pre-planned menu items, a la carte and special requests
  • Prepare food in appropriate quantity, assuring adequate portions for all and avoiding left over foods
  • Plan ahead and utilize time to prepare food for the day’s menu and any items to be frozen
  • Read recipes and convert measurements
  • Inform manager of supplies needed well in advance
  • Implement proper handling and storage of food(s) in accordance with HACCP regulations
  • Maintain accurate daily production and HACCP records
  • Receive, issue, and store food supplies, sign delivery slips and invoices as directed by the manager
  • Ensure proper use, operation and cleanliness of kitchen equipment including steam cookers, ovens, slicers, mixers, and cutters
  • Keep work and storage areas and equipment clean and avoid backlog of unwashed equipment
  • Work cooperatively with team members and follow instructions
  • Sweep the floor in food preparation area
  • Assume additional responsibilities in the absence of the Cafeteria Manager or Lead worker
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Cafeteria Manager
  • Expedite the preparation, serving and cleanup without regard to classification
  • Display an attitude of accommodation and cooperation towards students, faculty, staff and co-workers
