  • working knowledge of institutional food preparation, food storage, sanitation procedures, and kitchen safety
  • basic knowledge of food production and service line processes
  • sufficient arithmetic skills
  • ability to interpret menus, ingredient lists, standardized recipes and instructions
  • excellent human relations and customer service skills
  • ability to perform essential duties and follow oral and written instructions
  • ability to work varying shifts and locations
  • proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English
  • ability to work as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Prepares, assembles, and portions food items such as fruits, vegetables, frozen and cooked items
  • cooks, bakes, and assists in all food preparation including main dishes, sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and desserts
  • serves food according to specified portions, menus, and standardized recipes
  • operates commercial food processors, mixers, and slicing machines
  • sets up serving counters and arranges service lines for easy student selection
  • serves as a cashier operating point-of-sale computer systems
  • records food temperatures during preparation
  • monitors receipt, storage, rotation, and preparation of perishable items compliant with health regulations
  • cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment and surfaces
  • assists with inventory counting and ordering supplies
  • trains food service staff and student assistants
  • collaborates with custodial and maintenance staff for kitchen upkeep
  • substitutes for cafeteria manager when necessary
  • attends mandatory district meetings and trainings
  • performs other assigned duties supporting food service objectives
