Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • ServSafe certification
  • One year experience in institutional cooking in an education or equivalent setting
  • Ability to perform essential job duties
  • Ability to sequence food preparation activities
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to work varying shifts and locations

Job Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of institutional quantity food preparation, methods, procedures, and service
  • Working knowledge of food storage and sanitation procedures
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety and safe work procedures
  • Basic knowledge of food production and service line processes
  • Sufficient arithmetic skills to compute weights, measures, counts, and portions
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret menus, ingredient lists, standardized recipes, and instructions
  • Strong human relations skills to provide positive customer service and work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to perform essential duties and sequence food preparation activities to serve multiple items timely
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • High school diploma or GED
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Minimum of one year experience in institutional cooking within an educational or similar institutional setting
  • Preferred one letter of recommendation

Job Duties

  • Prepares, assembles, counts, cleans, slices, cuts, or otherwise portions food items such as fruits, vegetables, frozen and cooked items for packaging and ingredients
  • Cooks, bakes, and assists in all food preparation including main dishes, sandwiches, salads, salad bars, baked goods, desserts, and other foods
  • Serves food items according to specified portions, predetermined menus and standardized recipes
  • Inspects and tastes prepared foods to ensure quality, appearance, and taste
  • Sets up and operates commercial food processors, mixers, and slicing machines
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and arranges kitchen equipment and components
  • Sets up serving counters, arranges service lines and packaged food for easy student selection
  • Serves as a point-of-sale cashier, handling money and entering data into computerized systems
  • Records food temperatures at required intervals
  • Assists in food storage, rotation, and preparation per health and district HACCP guidelines
  • Cleans and sanitizes kitchen and food service areas
  • Assists with inventory counting and ordering
  • Participates in training food service staff and student assistants
  • Coordinates with custodial and maintenance for kitchen efficiency
  • May substitute for cafeteria manager
  • Attends required meetings and training
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the position’s objectives
