Job Requirements

  • Minimum one year experience in institutional cooking in educational or equivalent setting
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work varying shifts and locations
  • Ability to read, write and speak English

Job Qualifications

  • One year experience in institutional cooking in an educational or equivalent setting
  • Working knowledge of institutional quantity food preparation, methods, procedures, and service
  • Knowledge of food storage and sanitation procedures
  • Understanding of kitchen safety and safe work procedures
  • Basic knowledge of food production and service line processes
  • Sufficient arithmetic skills to compute weights, measures, counts, and portions
  • Ability to interpret menus, ingredient lists, standardized recipes, and instructions
  • Positive customer service and teamwork skills
  • Ability to perform essential duties
  • Ability to sequence food preparation to serve a variety of food items simultaneously
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work varying shifts and locations
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Preferred one letter of recommendation

Job Duties

  • Prepares, assembles, counts, cleans, slices, cuts, or otherwise portions food items
  • Prepares fruits and vegetables for salad bars
  • Cooks, bakes, and assists in all food preparation including main dishes, sandwiches, salads, salad bars, baked goods, and desserts
  • Serves food items according to specified portions, menus, and standardized recipes
  • Inspects and tastes prepared foods to determine quality, appearance, and taste
  • Follows proper food handling procedures
  • Sets up and operates commercial food processors, mixers, and slicing machines
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and arranges machine components
  • Sets up serving counter and arranges service lines
  • Serves as a point-of-sale cashier, accepts money and enters data into computerized system
  • Records food temperatures during preparation
  • Assists in monitoring receipt, storage, rotation, and preparation of perishable food items
  • Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment and surfaces
  • Assists with inventory counting and ordering food supplies
  • Assists in the training of food service staff and student assistants
  • Works with custodial and maintenance staff to ensure efficient kitchen operation
  • May substitute for cafeteria manager
  • Attends district-required meetings and trainings
  • Performs other duties as assigned
