Job Requirements

  • GED
  • high school diploma
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • minimum 3 years commercial cooking or baking experience
  • knowledge of USDA meal patterns
  • ServSafe certification
  • ability to lift 50 pounds
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • willingness to complete Unit Classes 1 through 4 if not already completed
  • good attendance record

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a general worker, cook, baker or lead worker or minimum 3 years commercial cooking or baking experience
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and take initiative
  • Knowledge of meal pattern requirements as specified by USDA Child Nutrition Program
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced food service environment
  • Ability to learn new skills related to job duties
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Effective communication skills with students and staff
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and remain calm in emergencies
  • Good organizational skills
  • Physical ability to withstand having hands in water and detergents
  • Tolerance for temperature extremes
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Completion of Unit Classes 1 through 4 or willingness to complete

  • Demonstrated good attendance records

Job Duties

  • Perform skilled work in the preparation of food pre-planned menu items, a la carte and special requests
  • Prepare food in appropriate quantity, assuring adequate portions for all and avoiding left over foods
  • Plan ahead and utilize time to prepare food for day's menu and items that may be frozen
  • Implement proper handling and storage of food in accordance with HACCP regulations
  • Maintain accurate daily production and HACCP records
  • Receive, issue, and store food supplies, signing delivery slips and invoices as directed
  • Operate and clean kitchen equipment including steam cookers, ovens, slicers, and mixers
  • Keep work and storage areas clean and organized
  • Work cooperatively with team members and follow instructions
  • Sweep floor in food preparation area
  • Assume additional responsibilities in the absence of Cafeteria Manager or Lead worker
  • Expedite preparation, serving, and clean-up tasks
  • Display a cooperative attitude towards students, faculty, staff, and co-workers
