Job Requirements

  • Experience in cooking within a restaurant or hospital dietary environment for at least one year
  • Possession of required State certification or food service license
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and safety standards
  • Capacity to handle food preparation following dietary and sanitary guidelines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and dietary staff
  • Willingness to comply with all safety, fire, and infection control protocols

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of one year experience cooking in a restaurant or dietary department of a hospital or similar environment
  • General kitchen or dietary experience may be considered in lieu of direct cooking experience
  • Must have required State certification or food service license
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through education, training, and experience

Job Duties

  • Prepares, cooks, and serves food in accordance with the menu and nutrition standards
  • Samples food for quality assurance prior to service
  • Ensures foods are cooked and held at appropriate temperatures
  • Records food temperatures throughout the cooking and holding process
  • Partners with supervisor to review menus and record necessary substitutions
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area including cleaning spills and assisting in scheduled cleaning
  • Ensures proper storage, rotation, preparation, and labeling of food
  • Discards outdated food
  • Reports faulty equipment and monitors equipment temperatures
  • Follows fire safety, infection control, and hazardous chemical practices
  • Assists in planning and preparing food services for special meals, events, and parties
  • Attends and participates in training, in-services, and staff meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned
