Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • one year experience cooking food for large groups or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • ability to meet attendance requirements
  • ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • ability to cook, taste, and smell food
  • ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing
  • ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely if required
  • food handler's certificate or ability to obtain within established timeframe
  • valid state driver’s license preferred

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge of meal planning techniques
  • knowledge of effective cleaning and sanitizing practices
  • ability to cook nutritional and safe food

  • ability to follow instructions and work independently

Job Duties

  • cook and serve nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules
  • ensure all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner
  • clean kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances
  • maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner
  • follow instructions and work independently
  • adhere to proper cooking methods and safety procedures
  • comply with sanitation and food storage standards
