Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in institutional cooking or dietary services preferred
- Ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and abide by infection control standards
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to supervise kitchen staff
- Willingness to work shifts including weekends and holidays
- Must meet health requirements including annual TB screening and physical examination
- Ability to cope with emotional and mental stress

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in cooking or food preparation in institutional or healthcare settings preferred
- Knowledge of food safety, handling, preparation and storage techniques
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to supervise and work with kitchen staff
- Knowledge of infection control and workplace safety procedures
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting 50 pounds and standing for long periods
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism
- Completion of any required food safety or health-related certifications
Job Duties
- Follow recipes and prepare foods corresponding to menu cycles and recipes prepared by Dietitian
- Cook or prepare palatable, attractive, nutritionally adequate meals in institutional quantities according to census and diet type
- Cook will adjust food quantities according to resident needs to prevent over/under production
- Supervise kitchen staff assisting with food preparation, assembling trays, cleaning and storage
- Frequently clean food service work areas during and between tasks
- Use food supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste
- Prepare and maintain supply of food substitutes for resident choices, cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences
- Participate in inventory ordering and receiving of stock/supplies
- Inspect trays after meal service to monitor and record resident acceptance
- Report findings to Dietary Services Supervisor
- Use food preparation equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions, follow proper cleaning and maintenance
- Handle, store, dispose of food supplies according to procedures and regulations
- Follow infection control policies and use personal protective equipment
- Inspect work areas for hazards, safety, pest problems
- Report or correct problems promptly
- Communicate regularly with Dietary Services Supervisor
- Assist in preparations for inspections and attend survey training
- Attend in-service education and apply information
- Report injuries and unsafe conditions immediately
- Maintain neat and clean work areas
- Demonstrate respect and dignity towards residents
- Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity
- Maintain neat and clean appearance
- Apply knowledge of food handling and preparation compliant with laws
