Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • two years of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation
  • one year equivalent to a Cook E6
  • ability to supervise and motivate people
  • familiarity with public health and sanitation standards
  • ability to maintain ethical standards and loyalty to state government
  • ability to complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET)
  • must submit cover letter and resume with application
  • ability to pass background check including felony conviction screening

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent

  • one year equivalent to a Cook E6 level
  • familiarization with public health and sanitation standards
  • ability to supervise and motivate people
  • strong communication skills
  • knowledge of HACCP and food safety protocols

Job Duties

  • oversee lower-level cooks and staff in meal preparation and service
  • prepare meals according to MDOC approved processes, recipes, and menus
  • serve meals to recruit staff, guests, and program participants
  • ensure sanitation of kitchen premises during and after meal service
  • maintain compliance with HACCP reporting and food storage procedures
  • supervise and motivate kitchen personnel
  • clean all areas of operation thoroughly during and after meal service
