Job Requirements

  • Completion of high school or equivalent
  • No specific amount of experience required for entry-level
  • One year of quantity cooking experience for mid-level
  • Two years of quantity cooking experience including one year equivalent to Cook E6 for advanced level
  • Ability to stand for long periods with repetitive bending and twisting
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Must provide three professional references including current and previous supervisors

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in quantity cooking and food preparation preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and portion control
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team environment
  • Good physical stamina for standing and repetitive movements
  • Experience working in institutional or long-term care kitchens is an asset

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook large quantities of food according to standardized recipes and menus
  • Maintain compliance with State, Federal, and VA sanitation and safety standards
  • Monitor food quality and freshness during preparation and service
  • Ensure kitchen equipment and work areas are clean and properly maintained
  • Assist in inventory control and ordering of food supplies
  • Support team efforts in meal planning and execution during peak service times
  • Adhere to dietary restrictions and special meal requests as necessary
