Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Full-time availability for 40 hours per week
- Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends every weekend
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks related to cooking
- Compliance with Johns Hopkins Health System drug-free workplace policies
- Legal eligibility to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in quantity production cooking or similar food service roles preferred
- Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow recipes and production sheets accurately
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and resolve problems independently
Job Duties
- Guide and train cooks as directed by manager or Executive Chef in the preparation, cooking, and serving of foods
- Operate standard kitchen equipment such as mixers, cookers, ovens, stoves, toasters, coffee urns, and other related equipment to cook foods in production quantities
- Review the daily production sheets and produce food to meet the needs of both patient services and retail
- Inspect and clean all foods prior to cooking
- Prepare all foods requiring skillful preparation such as roasts, stews, sauces, casseroles, soups, and baked goods in quantities indicated on production sheets
- Slice meat and cheese
- assemble fruit plates, relish trays, and desserts
- Store leftover food by properly covering, labeling, and dating the food items
- Ensure that all equipment such as ranges, grills, ovens, kettles, mixers, pots and pans, fryers, refrigerators, floors, and grinders are clean and sanitary
- Ensure that shelves, bins, storage drawers, and utensils are in a neat and orderly condition
- Report equipment needing repair and/or adjustment to appropriate personnel
- Protect equipment, utensils, and food from adulteration, spoilage, and pilferage
- Dispose of food matter in the 'Food Waste' containers and maintain all production records for food overs and unders for food production daily in both hot and cold production
- Perform related work as required
