Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • classified as Bus Operator or successful completion of all State required testing
  • criminal background check
  • maintain Food Service Worker’s Permit
  • physical ability to stand continuously and lift 40-60 pounds
  • flexibility and problem-solving skills
  • ability to follow directions and maintain food safety standards
  • ability to attend in-services and workshops
  • comply with State Law and County policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • criminal background check conducted
  • meet definition of qualifications in WV Code 18A-4-8b
  • demonstrated competency per WV Code 18A-4-8e state-approved competency test
  • ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily
  • current County Board of Health Food Service Worker’s Permit
  • ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • ability to perform work requiring standing
  • ability to apply practical math concepts
  • ability to interface effectively with other departments and personnel
  • ability to read and comply with safety warnings
  • ability to interpret various instructions

Job Duties

  • Reviews weekly menus for planning food preparation schedule
  • prepares a variety of menu items for daily service
  • documents food used, served, and left over according to production times or dates opened
  • assembles, measures, and mixes ingredients for a variety of food items
  • follows written, verbal, and other directions
  • makes menu item substitutions with approval of the Child Nutrition Director
  • acts as Cafeteria Manager when necessary assigning duties and inspecting food ready for consumption
  • demonstrates understanding of nutritional information and safe handling from food labels
  • explains ingredients including those harmful to students with special diets or allergies
  • demonstrates knowledge of preparation time and holding processes
  • utilizes a Child Nutrition label to demonstrate appropriate serving size
  • selects appropriate utensils and demonstrates use in weighing and measuring ingredients
  • matches food preparation tasks to kitchen equipment and uses equipment efficiently and safely
  • practices and enforces good personal hygiene and disease prevention
  • estimates food requirements and portions using math skills
  • adapts standardized recipes to calculate desired yield
  • exhibits flexibility and problem-solving skills when unexpected circumstances occur
  • determines and maintains appropriate food temperatures for preparation, storage, and service
  • prepares all foods according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • identifies and correctly uses kitchen equipment such as mixers, ovens, slicers, steam equipment, food choppers, and dishwashers
  • maintains and prepares inventories, records, and reports for the Child Nutrition office
  • appropriately stores food and supplies using FIFO inventory method
  • inputs meal participation data into computer when applicable
  • explains and demonstrates goals and operations of child nutrition program
  • assists with preparation of special dietary items for identified students
  • exhibits professionalism in dealings with co-workers, students, parents, staff, and outside entities
  • maintains regular attendance and complies with State Law and County policies and regulations
  • attends in-services and workshops as directed
  • maintains confidentiality and unquestionable integrity
