Job Requirements

  • Two years of cooking experience in an institution or commercial firm serving complete meals
  • Associate’s degree or certification in Food Service Management, Foods and Hospitality Service, or a directly-related field
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to stay calm and prioritize duties during rush periods
  • Lane County Food Handler's card within two weeks of employment
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work typical of the food service industry
  • Essential personnel availability during inclement weather and university closures

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of cooking experience in institutions or commercial firms serving complete meals
  • Associate's degree or certification in Food Service Management, Foods and Hospitality Service, or a related field
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to stay calm and prioritize duties during busy periods
  • Experience directing staff preferred
  • Experience preparing food in a high-volume kitchen preferred
  • Exhibition cooking experience preferred
  • Experience working within a HACCP plan preferred

Job Duties

  • Directing meal preparation and production
  • Overseeing meal service and clean-up
  • Creating daily prep lists
  • Recording food usage and completing shift worksheets
  • Assigning duties to Cook 1s, food service workers, temporary staff, and student employees
  • Assisting with labor cost control and staff scheduling
  • Assisting with product ordering and receiving
  • Providing ongoing training for classified and student staff
  • Acting as backup in Manager's absence
