Job Requirements

  • Completion of pre-employment physical examination
  • Annual physical examination thereafter
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds regularly
  • Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination
  • Required immunizations including Hepatitis B
  • Ability to work shift work including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special situations
  • Ability to work planned and unscheduled overtime
  • Commitment to wearing uniform or medical professional attire while on duty
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to handle kitchen equipment and exposure to cooking oils, grease, and heat
  • Ability to work under mission-essential conditions during emergencies
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and suitability determination
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (Other than blueprint reading)
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
  • Dexterity and safety
  • Knowledge of materials
  • Technical practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Work practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
  • Demonstrated culinary skills in prepping and assembling ingredients under supervision
  • Ability to follow recipes and food safety standards

Job Duties

  • Perform a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, soups and salads
  • Prepare items such as various forms of hot cereal, sauces, gravies and soups from packaged mixes
  • Broil meats
  • Make cold sandwich fillings
  • Use a variety of cooking utensils to measure, weigh, and process food items
  • Maintain accurate food inventories and rotate stock items to prevent spoilage
