Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • previous cooking experience in a healthcare, long-term care, or institutional setting preferred
  • knowledge of special dietary needs and restrictions in a healthcare environment
  • ability to read, write, and follow recipes and production sheets
  • strong time management and organizational skills
  • ServSafe Certification or equivalent preferred
  • ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals according to the nursing home's menu and dietary guidelines
  • ensure meals meet residents' specific dietary restrictions such as low-sodium and diabetic diets
  • follow proper food safety, sanitation, and infection control standards
  • ensure timely preparation and serving of meals for residents, staff, and guests
  • monitor and record food temperatures and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • assist in maintaining inventory of food and supplies
  • notify supervisor of shortages
  • clean and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas after meal preparation
  • collaborate with dietary aides and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations
  • follow facility policies and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols
  • participate in ongoing training and in-services as required by the facility
