Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous experience in food preparation or similar role preferred
- ability to operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, ovens, steamers
- ability to follow safety and infection control protocols
- excellent communication skills
- ability to work in a team environment
- ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, handling kitchen tools
- ability to read and understand menus and diet orders
- basic computer skills
- commitment to punctuality and reliability
- willingness to perform additional duties as needed

Job Duties
- Prepares various foods depending on menu created by dieticians for each meal of the day
- operates various kitchen equipment in preparation for the meal such as mixer, meat slicer, food processor, oven, steamer
- cleans work surfaces following shift including sweeping floors, wiping down counter space, covering and storing unused foods
- creates meals appropriate for the elderly in large quantities using institutional-sized cookware
- works at a constant pace to ensure food is ready for each meal
- complies with infection control policies in work area
- keeps equipment clean at all times
- fills in gaps in kitchen help as needed
- reports any needed repairs to maintenance department
- reads and understands menus
- prepares meals in accordance with the menu and standardized recipes
- assists in the food service line ensuring diets are served as ordered including specialized and therapeutic diets
- monitors and serves meals with appropriate portion controls
- assists in processing diet changes and new diets
- provides that meals are prepared and served on time
- ensures substitutes are available for those who refuse foods served
- properly scrapes and washes dishes, pots, and pans
- records freezer and walk-in refrigerator temperatures according to procedures
- checks and puts up stock
- stores cleaning materials appropriately
- sets up tray line and performs tray line service
- returns trays to kitchen if requested
- understands and follows diet orders including NPO orders
- processes diet orders and records menu substitutions according to guidelines
- properly stores leftovers and opened food
- makes coffee and tea as requested
- follows procedures for serving associate meals
- cleans kitchen equipment properly
- uses appropriate serving equipment
- checks and records water temperature for dishwasher and sinks
- checks dishwasher sanitizer levels
- checks chemical levels and replaces if needed
- follows proper operating procedures of kitchen equipment
- promotes the image and reputation of the system through servant leadership and open communication
- contributes to committees, workgroups, project management, and collaborative efforts
- performs other duties as necessary to ensure system success
