Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of six months demonstrated experience of institutional food preparation or equivalent combinations of training and/or experience
  • knowledge of food preparation methods, procedures, equipment and supplies
  • safety practices and procedures
  • sanitary standards for food preparation
  • record keeping and office procedures
  • basic nutrition concepts
  • valid State of Ohio Driver's License and transportation
  • pre-employment drug screen
  • criminal background checks
  • post-employment physical conducted

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • knowledge of food preparation methods, procedures, equipment and supplies
  • understanding of safety practices and procedures
  • knowledge of sanitary standards for food preparation
  • knowledge of record keeping and office procedures
  • knowledge of basic nutrition concepts
  • valid State of Ohio Driver's License
  • reliable transportation

Job Duties

  • Assemble food, dishes, utensils and supplies needed for timely meal preparation
  • prepare high-quality nutritional food in quantity based on number of children
  • follow standardized/established menus
  • ensure meals are prepared on schedule and in compliance with special diets
  • prepare and sort food for meal preparation for each classroom
  • adhere to sanitation and safety procedures prescribed for the Head Start kitchen
  • assure that food temperatures are hot or cold enough and that kitchen areas are sanitary so that health standards are maintained
  • wash dishes, pots, pans and utensils using approved sanitation methods
  • return all items to their proper storage site
  • complete routine maintenance of main kitchen and equipment, including weekly deep cleaning
  • routine cleaning of individual classroom food service areas
  • deliver meals from main kitchen to classroom kitchens as assigned
  • order supplies
  • assist in receiving orders from vendors, ensuring that proper items have been delivered
  • assist with menu planning
  • assist with food inventories as assigned
  • reconcile container inventory weekly
  • perform weekly a thorough visual safety check and complete checklist
  • report any needed equipment or kitchen repairs
  • attend staff meetings, training and workshops
  • perform other related duties as requested
