Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
- Pass a urinalysis test prior to appointment
- Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
- Complete all application requirements by the closing date
- Serve a 1-year probationary period
- Willingness to comply with vaccination and health safety requirements
- Ability to safely stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 40 lbs
- Willingness to work in areas with temperature extremes and exposure to kitchen hazards
- Required to wear proper hair covering and clean uniform
- Follow safety and protective equipment protocols during food preparation and cleaning
- Eligible to work full-time Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
- Ability to submit a detailed, clear resume of relevant experience

Job Qualifications
- Evidence of training or experience demonstrating knowledge, skills, and ability to perform cooking duties
- Ability to independently prepare and cook food items including therapeutic diets
- Experience with various food preparation methods such as broiling, roasting, baking, frying, boiling, steaming, stewing, braising, and grilling
- Skill in measuring and assembling ingredients accurately
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment operation and safety procedures
- Ability to follow sanitary food handling and cleaning protocols
- Capability to work without more than normal supervision
- Demonstrated dexterity and safety awareness
- Ability to interpret instructions and specifications other than blueprint reading
- Experience maintaining work practices appropriate to a kitchen environment
- Experience preparing food in compliance with dietary requirements
- Experience working collaboratively in a team environment
Job Duties
- Independently prepares and cooks a variety of items including regular and therapeutic diet entrees and dessert items
- Follows menus, production sheets, and recipes to prepare items in the quantity needed
- Grills eggs, meat patties, pancakes, French toast
- broils meats
- makes cold sandwich fillings and assembles a variety of sandwiches
- Uses a variety of methods to prepare meats, fish, and poultry including broiling, roasting, baking, frying, boiling, steaming, stewing, braising, and grilling
- Slices meat items by hand, confirming to specific size requirements or weight specifications
- Prepares fresh, canned, and frozen vegetables
- bakes frozen potatoes, pre-made cookie dough, and muffin batters
- Prepares and heats convenience items, and prepares pureed foods and adjusts consistency with thickeners
- Washes, peels, and cuts fruits and vegetables
- assembles and mixes salad ingredients and dessert items, including gelatin molds and fruit crisps
- Plans cooking processes to produce meals on time and at the proper temperature which may require coordination of cooking several items with different cooking times
- Makes a variety of desserts such as cobblers, brownies, cookies, and pastries
- Weighs, measures, and assembles ingredients for regular and modified diets
- Operates a variety of kitchen equipment and follows appropriate safety procedures
- Follows sanitary food handling procedures
- Disassembles and reassembles equipment for cleaning
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, and performs deep cleaning tasks when needed
- Operates industrial dish machine
- Performs other related duties
