Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current Washington State Food Handler's Permit
  • Ability to obtain Washington State Home Care Aide certification within DOH timeline
  • Experience in institutional or healthcare-related cooking
  • Knowledge of special diets and therapeutic nutrition
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English
  • Must pass Washington State criminal background check and fingerprints

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepares and serves meals and snacks according to dietary guidelines and therapeutic diets
  • Follows standardized recipes and modifies meals for allergies, swallowing difficulties, and texture needs
  • Ensures knowledge of residents' care plans, dietary restrictions, food consistency, and swallow precautions
  • Serves meals in a timely manner respecting resident preferences
  • Ensures food and supplies for upcoming meals are available
  • Maintains food inventory, places orders within budget
  • Tracks supplies and ensures proper storage
  • Maintains kitchen cleanliness, sanitizes equipment, and restocks supplies
  • Complies with food handling, storage, labeling, and sanitation regulations
  • Prevents cross-contamination and foodborne illness
  • Monitors refrigerator, freezer, and food temperatures
  • Provides assistance to residents in the dining area including cueing, redirection, and fall response
  • May work HCA shifts outside cooking duties as assigned
  • Collaborates with nurses, caregivers, mental health professionals, and supervisors
  • Attends mandatory trainings and staff meetings
