Job Requirements

  • Completion of high school or equivalent education
  • two years of quantity cooking experience including one year equivalent to Cook E6
  • no felony convictions as per Public Act 191 of 2017
  • ability to pass a thorough criminal history background check
  • compliance with ethical standards and reporting conflict of interest
  • eligibility to work in a correctional facility environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • two years of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation
  • at least one year experience equivalent to Cook E6
  • ability to lead and supervise others
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation
  • capability to follow standardized recipes and processes

Job Duties

  • Oversee prisoner workers in meal preparation and service
  • ensure adherence to MDOC standardized recipes, menus, and processes
  • prepare high-quality meals for prisoners and staff
  • maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the kitchen
  • monitor inventory and ordering of kitchen supplies
  • train and guide prisoner workers
  • complete required reports and documentation
