Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of institutional cooking experience or equivalent
  • Current Utah Food Handler Permit or Food Protection Manager certification accredited by ANSI
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • Ability to follow standard hospital recipes and procedures
  • Ability to comply with departmental policies regarding attendance and evaluations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, and lifting in a hot or cold kitchen environment

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of institutional cooking experience or equivalent
  • Current Utah Food Handler Permit or Food Protection Manager certification accredited by ANSI
  • Previous food production experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred for some positions
  • Demonstrated human relations and computer literacy skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of cooking methods and equipment operation
  • Ability to organize and facilitate functions with minimal notice

Job Duties

  • Bakes, roasts, stews, fries, steam-cooks, or otherwise prepares food products by following hospital recipes and instructions
  • Utilizes knowledge of cooking methods and preparation time to ensure timely food delivery
  • Adjusts recipes for special diet orders and factors like altitude
  • Operates kitchen machinery including slicers, choppers, steamers, broilers, griddles, fryers, braziers, blenders, and microwaves
  • Weighs cooking products to ensure proper portioning
  • Cleans work areas, kitchen equipment, and utensils to meet sanitation requirements
  • Performs quality checks on taste and appearance of finished food
  • Uses software and daily menus to complete purchase requisitions and forecast production
  • Sets up and stocks areas for food service delivery and assists in serving
  • Orders and rotates stock to maintain adequate supply
  • Assists with catering functions including food preparation, setup, presentation, and cleanup
  • Develops or modifies hospital recipes to improve kitchen output or services
