Job Requirements

  • Must possess education that provides skills to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and procedures
  • Must have appropriate health certification as required by local, state, and federal health departments
  • Must be able to work the evening shift including weekends or rotating weekends
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to perform stirring, sifting, cutting, slicing, reaching, bending, standing for long periods, and ambulating carrying trays and plates
  • Must maintain food safety and sanitation standards
  • Must show compassion and genuine care for elderly residents
  • Must be able to work independently and prioritize workload
  • Must follow confidentiality protocols and protect residents' rights
  • Must demonstrate a positive customer service attitude

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Culinary training preferred
  • Appropriate health certification as required by local, state, and federal health departments
  • Excellent cooking and baking skills
  • Knowledge of restricted diets such as diabetic, low fat, salt free, and liquid diets
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and staff
  • Compassion and genuine care for elderly residents
  • Knowledgeable of MSDS guidelines for hazardous materials
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
  • Capability to expand recipes
  • Demonstrates a servant heart and attitude

Job Duties

  • Prepare and oversee all meal preparation during the shift
  • Ensure meals are nutritious, flavorful, and well-presented
  • Follow food safety and sanitation standards
  • Cook meals according to established recipes and menus
  • Assist Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and preferences
  • Present meals that are pleasing to the eye and palate
  • Set up kitchen and prep according to each day's menu, prep for next day
  • Clean dishes, floors, walls, and kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary guidelines
  • Maintain organized, clean, and safe storeroom, coolers, and kitchen
  • Assist in planning and cooking special meals
  • Maintain proper temperatures of steam table, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer
  • Maintain confidentiality of residents' personal information and protect residents' rights
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ensure adequate daily coverage for meal service and support dining room preparation
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required
