Job Requirements
- Current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification
- Two years previous culinary experience or associate's degree in related culinary field or culinary certificate with one year experience
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Basic arithmetic skills
- Solid communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Ability to multitask and work independently
- Intermediate knowledge of food service routines and food safety
- Basic to intermediate computer application skills
- Ability to stand and walk continually
- Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds occasionally

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification required
- ServSafe Manager Certification preferred
- Two years previous culinary experience or related associate's degree or culinary certificate with one year experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well in fast-paced, stressful environments
- Experience in high volume and line cooking is preferred
- Basic to intermediate computer skills including MS Office applications
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work independently in patient line pantry and café.
Job Duties
- Prepares food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment
- Follows recipe cards, as well as production, portion, and presentation standards
- Prepares a wide variety of daily food items for patient room service and café utilizing standard recipes
- Utilizes food cooking techniques such as braising, roasting, sautéing, frying and grilling
- Completes mis en place and set-up station for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner service
- Maintains clean and organized work areas, including work surfaces, floors, walls and equipment in compliance with standards
- Operates, maintains and properly cleans standard kitchen equipment efficiently
- Dates all food containers and rotates as per policies, following health department food code guidelines
- Checks pars for shift use, determines necessary preparation, freezer pull and line set up
- Monitors inventory of food products to reduce costs and maximize space utilization
- Returns unused food items to designated storage areas, covering and dating perishables
- Ensures appropriate supply of food items are prepared daily
- Assists in setting up actions to correct food cost issues, controls food waste and usage
- Implements steps to correct quality issues ensuring high quality food items
- Monitors quality and customer feedback of food items
- Establishes strong relationships with food service caregivers to meet service needs
- Accurately interprets weights, measures and pricing
- Maintains basic understanding of health codes and knife work
- Utilizes computer applications including email and MS Office
- Provides support to other food services areas including food delivery to patients
- Supports organizational vision, mission and values
- Champions continuous improvement via Lean principles
- Maintains safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests
- Conducts activities professionally and confidentially complying with laws and policies
- Delivers timely, efficient and accurate customer service
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
