Job Requirements
- Experience working independently in quantity food service healthcare environment
- Ability to prepare and cook a variety of regular and therapeutic diet items
- Skill in planning and coordinating multiple cooking processes
- Knowledge of portioning and standard serving sizes
- Ability to hand slice meats to specified sizes or weights
- Ability to maintain proper food temperatures during all stages of food service
- Commitment to sanitation and workplace safety standards
- No educational substitution available
- Experience includes relevant volunteer work
Job Qualifications
- Experience in quantity food service healthcare environment
- Ability to perform as a Cook with minimal supervision
- Skilled in preparing regular and therapeutic diets
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Competent in various cooking methods including roasting, broiling, baking, frying, boiling, steaming, and stewing
- Proficient in preparing soups, stocks, gravies, and sauces from scratch
- Experience in large quantity meal production and recipe adjustments
- Ability to maintain food quality and safety standards throughout service
Job Duties
- Prepare nutritious and high quality meals for Veterans
- Independently prepare and cook various items including regular and therapeutic diets
- Plan cooking processes to ensure timely meal production at proper temperatures
- Portion and serve food according to standard service sizes
- Roast, broil, bake, fry, boil, steam, and stew meats, fish, and poultry
- Prepare soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces, and puddings from scratch
- Adjust standardized recipes for large quantity cooking
- Slice meat items by hand to specific size or weight requirements
- Maintain proper food temperatures during holding, transport, reheating, and serving to ensure quality and safety
