Job Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- prior experience in cooking or food preparation
- must be able to stand for long periods
- must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- must comply with all health screenings including annual TB test and physical exam
- must be able to follow oral and written instructions
- must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment
- must be able to handle mental and emotional stress associated with the position
- must maintain a neat and clean appearance
- must be able to move around the facility as required
- must be able to supervise and direct kitchen assistants
- must adhere to facility safety, infection control policies and regulations
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- experience in food preparation or cooking preferably in an institutional or healthcare setting
- knowledge of food handling, preparation and storage techniques
- ability to follow written and verbal directions including menus and tray tickets
- effective communication skills
- understanding of safety and infection control procedures
- ability to supervise kitchen staff
- knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures
- physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- willingness to attend training and education sessions

- ability to prioritize and complete tasks timely

Job Duties
- Follow recipes and prepare foods according to menu cycles and dietitian instructions
- cook palatable, attractive, nutritionally adequate meals in institutional quantities
- supervise kitchen staff assisting with food preparation, tray assembly, cleaning and storage
- frequently clean food service work areas and equipment
- use food supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste
- prepare and maintain food substitutes to accommodate resident preferences
- participate in inventory ordering and receiving of stock and supplies
- inspect trays after meal service and report resident acceptance to supervisor
- use food preparation equipment properly and maintain cleanliness
- handle, store, and dispose of food supplies according to department procedures and legal regulations
- follow infection control procedures and use personal protective equipment
- inspect work areas for hazards and report any issues
- communicate with supervisor throughout shifts to meet resident needs
- assist with inspections and surveyor interactions
- attend in-service education and apply knowledge
- report injuries and unsafe conditions immediately
- maintain clean and neat work areas
- respect resident rights, dignity and confidentiality
- demonstrate honesty and integrity with facility property
- comply with food handling and safety regulations
- prioritize tasks and responsibilities and adapt to changes
- carry out essential job functions safely
- perform other duties as assigned
