Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- prior experience in food preparation or institutional cooking preferred
- ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- mobility to move freely within facility
- ability to bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as required
- annual TB screening and physical examination as per facility policy
- ability to cope with mental and emotional stress of working in a skilled nursing environment
- ability to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts
- adherence to facility infection control and safety policies
- ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers
- willingness to participate in ongoing training and education
- ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate honesty and integrity

- knowledge of food handling, preparation, and storage techniques compliant with laws and regulations
- ability to apply regulations to food preparation and staff supervision
- ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions including menus and tray tickets
- effective communication skills with staff and residents
- knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures
- knowledge of infection control, use of personal protective equipment, and universal precautions
- ability to prioritize tasks and complete duties within allotted time

Job Duties
- Follow recipes and prepare foods corresponding to menu cycles and dietitian-approved recipes
- cook or prepare palatable, attractive, nutritionally adequate meals in institutional quantities served at proper temperatures and times
- supervise kitchen staff assisting with food preparation, tray assembly, cleaning, and storage
- frequently clean food service work areas during and between tasks
- use food supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste
- prepare and maintain supply of food substitutes to accommodate resident preferences
- participate in inventory ordering and receiving of stock and supplies
- inspect trays after meal service to monitor and report resident acceptance
- use food preparation equipment as per manufacturer instructions and follow cleaning and maintenance schedules
- handle, store, and dispose of food supplies according to procedures and regulations
- follow infection control policies and use personal protective equipment as required
- inspect food service areas for hazards, pests, or maintenance problems and address or report promptly
- communicate with Dietary Services Supervisor during shifts to meet resident needs
- assist with preparation for regulatory inspections and attend survey training
- attend in-service education and apply learned information
- report injuries immediately
- report unsafe or hazardous conditions immediately
- maintain work areas in a clean and neat condition
