Job Requirements

  • Must have current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification
  • Two years of previous culinary experience or Associate’s degree in a related culinary field or culinary certificate plus one year of experience
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment safely
  • Solid communication skills and interpersonal collaboration
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in patient line pantry and café
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Ability to maintain a safe, sanitary work environment
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry weights between 1-50 pounds
  • Adherence to health and safety standards
  • Willingness to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to use basic computer applications and email
  • Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality
  • Must comply with all organizational policies and health codes.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification required
  • ServSafe Manager Certification preferred
  • Two years of culinary experience or Associate’s degree in a related culinary field, or culinary certificate plus one year of experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Customer service skills in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Intermediate knowledge of food service routines, food safety, and handling
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills including MS Office and email
  • Experience in high-volume and line cooking preferred
  • Ability to follow health codes and knife skills.

Job Duties

  • Prepares food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment
  • Follows recipe cards, production, portion, and presentation standards
  • Prepares a wide variety of daily food items for patient room service and café utilizing standard recipes and cooking techniques such as braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, and grilling
  • Completes mis en place and sets up stations for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner service
  • Maintains clean and organized work areas including work surfaces, floors, walls, and equipment in compliance with health and sanitation standards
  • Operates, maintains, and properly cleans kitchen equipment such as mixers, blenders, ovens, fryers, and grills
  • Dates all food containers and rotates per policies following health department codes
  • Monitors inventory to reduce costs and maximize space utilization
  • Returns unused food items to storage properly covering and dating perishables
  • Assists in correcting food cost issues by controlling waste and loss
  • Implements steps to ensure high quality of food items
  • Monitors quality and customer feedback
  • Establishes strong communication with food service caregivers to meet service needs
  • Accurately interprets weights, measures, and pricing
  • Maintains understanding of health codes and knife work
  • Uses computer applications and email for operational tasks
  • Provides support in other food service areas as needed
  • Supports organizational vision and values
  • Champions continuous improvement and provides a safe environment
  • Conducts activities professionally and ethically
  • Delivers courteous and timely customer service
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
