Job Requirements

  • Must have two years previous culinary experience or Associate's degree in related culinary field or culinary certificate with one year of culinary experience
  • Must hold current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification
  • Preferred ServSafe Manager Certification
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Intermediate knowledge of food service routines, safety, and handling
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills including email and MS Office
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for most of the shift
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Two years previous culinary experience or Associate's degree in related culinary field or culinary certificate with one year of culinary experience
  • Current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification required
  • ServSafe Manager Certification preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment preferred
  • Basic understanding of health codes and knife work
  • Ability to use computer applications including email and MS Office
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work independently
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Job Duties

  • Prepares food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment
  • Follows recipe cards, production, portion, and presentation standards
  • Prepares a wide variety of daily food items for patient room service and cafe using standard recipes
  • Utilizes cooking techniques such as braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, and grilling
  • Completes mise en place and sets up station for meal services
  • Maintains clean and organized work areas including surfaces, floors, walls, and equipment
  • Operates, maintains, and cleans standard kitchen equipment efficiently
  • Dates and rotates food containers per health guidelines
  • Checks pars, determines preparation needs, and sets up service lines
  • Monitors inventory to reduce costs and maximize space utilization
  • Returns unused food items to proper storage covering and dating perishables
  • Assists in correcting food cost issues, controlling food waste and loss
  • Monitors food quality and customer feedback
  • Establishes strong communication with food service caregivers
  • Accurately interprets weights, measures, and pricing
  • Provides support to other food services areas as directed
  • Supports organizational vision, mission, and values
  • Promotes continuous improvement and safety
  • Conducts work with professionalism and confidentiality
  • Delivers customer service or patient care in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
