Job Requirements

  • One year of food preparation, service and clean up experience in a large institutional or similar volume setting
  • Ability to pass sanitation and safety certification course after hire
  • Ability to work assigned shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to supervise inmates
  • Successful completion of a thorough background investigation
  • Compliance with drug use policies
  • Adherence to personal appearance standards including tattoos
  • Affirmation of loyalty oath as Disaster Service Worker
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Willingness to work in a secure detention environment

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of procedures and equipment for high volume food preparation in institutional settings
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to follow recipes and prepare a wide variety of foods
  • Ability to use and clean cooking equipment
  • Ability to supervise and provide guidance to kitchen workers
  • Basic record keeping skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work in an institutional kitchen environment
  • Ability to make accurate arithmetic calculations

Job Duties

  • Prepare, cook and serve food in a high volume institutional setting
  • Clean kitchen equipment and maintain health and safety standards
  • Supervise and direct inmate workers in food preparation and kitchen duties
  • Follow menus and recipes to ensure meals are ready at established times
  • Maintain kitchen and related areas in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition
  • Prepare modified diet items as required
  • Comply with safety and sanitation regulations and protocols
