Job Requirements

  • physical condition allowing for normal kitchen duties including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grabbing, pushing, pulling, standing or walking entire shift
  • ability to read and understand directions
  • ability to show warmth, love and compassion toward residents
  • dependability and punctuality
  • comfort working in a Christian Retirement Center environment
  • adherence to Fairhaven employee handbook, procedures and policies

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of food service sanitation course
  • minimum one-year cooking experience in nursing home, institution or restaurant
  • ability to communicate in English in a friendly manner
  • knowledge of various therapeutic diets
  • experience with meal preparation and portion control

Job Duties

  • prepare and serve food by following standardized recipes and correct serving portions
  • review menu spreadsheets and conform strictly to menu requirements
  • monitor and record temperatures of food and cold storage units
  • supervise food service staff in the absence of supervisors
  • maintain cleanliness and sanitation of area and equipment
  • coordinate transfer of meals to supportive care or between kitchens
  • ensure appearance of food and garnishments meet standards
