Job Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Subject to background and suitability investigations
  • Designated or random drug testing may be required
  • May serve a probationary period
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend frequently and lift up to 40 pounds unassisted
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment safely and handle sharp tools

Job Qualifications

  • Evidence of training or experience demonstrating ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Knowledge of dexterity and safety in food production
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications related to food service
  • Experience leading or supervising food production staff
  • Familiarity with materials and technical practices used in food preparation
  • Competence in using and maintaining kitchen tools and equipment
  • Understanding of work practices and compliance with safety and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate food production operations using standards, diet manuals, and production sheets
  • Direct food service and production staff, including cooks, in daily operations
  • Develop work schedules and performance plans, providing technical direction and training
  • Investigate productivity and cost issues and implement corrective actions
  • Monitor compliance with food safety, sanitation, and safety protocols based on HACCP and VA policies
  • Prepare and cook regular and therapeutic diet meals when necessary
  • Oversee safety and sanitation programs ensuring proper practices are followed
