Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitable for federal employment as determined by a background investigation
- Selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Completion of online onboarding process with acceptable identification
- Ability to perform continuous standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, pushing and pulling
- Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 lbs unassisted
- Manual dexterity to operate kitchen equipment and handle sharp knives
- Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, and potentially hazardous kitchen environments
- Compliance with sanitary food handling and safety procedures
- Ability to wear proper hair covering, clean uniform, and disposable gloves
- Willingness to undergo a 1-year probationary period
- Completion of all application requirements including submission of resume
- Understanding and commitment to the ideals of the American republic and the United States Constitution
Job Qualifications
- Evidence of training or experience demonstrating ability to perform duties of the position
- Culinary certificate or 2-year culinary degree preferred but not required
- ServSafe Manager certification preferred but not required
- Experience in interpreting instructions and specifications
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in cooking
- Ability to work without more than normal supervision
- Familiarity with work practices and safety standards in kitchen operations
Job Duties
- Independently prepares and cooks a variety of items including regular and therapeutic diet entrees and dessert items
- Follows menus, production sheets, and recipes to prepare items in the quantity needed
- Grills eggs, meat patties, pancakes, French toast
- broils meats
- makes cold sandwich fillings and assembles a variety of sandwiches
- Uses a variety of methods to prepare meats, fish, and poultry including broiling, roasting, baking, frying, boiling, steaming, stewing, braising, and grilling
- Slices meat items by hand, confirming specific size requirements or weight specifications
- Prepares fresh, canned, and frozen vegetables
- bakes frozen potatoes, pre-made cookie dough, and muffin batters
- Prepares and heats convenience items, and prepares pureed foods and adjusts consistency with thickeners
- Washes, peels, and cuts fruits and vegetables
- assembles and mixes salad ingredients and dessert items, including gelatin molds and fruit crisps
- Plans cooking processes to produce meals on time and at the proper temperature which may require coordination of cooking several items with different cooking times
- Makes a variety of desserts such as cobblers, brownies, cookies, and pastries
- Weighs, measures, and assembles ingredients for regular and modified diets
- Operates a variety of kitchen equipment and follows appropriate safety procedures
- Follows sanitary food handling procedures
- Disassembles and reassembles equipment for cleaning
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, and performs deep cleaning tasks when needed
- Operates industrial dish machine
- Performs other related duties
