  • culinary school training
  • at least two years of relevant experience as a cook
  • food protection certificate
  • good communication and interpersonal skills
  • available to work a flexible schedule

  • experience working with diverse populations

Job Qualifications

  • culinary school training
  • at least two years of relevant experience as a cook in a restaurant or similar environment such as the NYC Department of Homeless Services or another similar city-operated organization
  • food protection certificate
  • good understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • good communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and staff
  • available to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to participant and staff needs
  • computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Job Duties

  • clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, equipment, and utensils
  • ensure sanitation, health, and safety standards are maintained in work areas
  • measure ingredients required for specific foods to be prepared
  • wash, cut, chop, and prepare foods designated for cooking
  • follow menu in preparing meals
  • follow recipes in cooking meals
  • clean, stock, and restock workstation and supply area
  • follow personal sanitation standards before, during, and after cooking food
  • order and take delivery of food and supplies
  • comply with nutrition and sanitary regulations and safety standards
  • maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers and clients
  • keep abreast of new ideas in the field
  • perform other duties as requested
