Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- at least two years of cooking experience in a relevant setting
- valid Food Protection Certificate
- ability to work flexible hours
- proficiency in computer skills
- strong communication skills
- ability to maintain cleanliness and adhere to safety standards
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma, High School Equivalency, or Culinary School training
- at least two years of relevant experience as a cook in a restaurant or similar environment such as the NYC Department of Homeless Services or another similar city-operated organization
- Food Protection Certificate issued by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
- good understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
- good communication and interpersonal skills
- computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Job Duties
- Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, equipment, and utensils
- ensure sanitation, health, and safety standards are maintained in work areas
- measure ingredients required for specific foods to be prepared
- wash, cut, chop, and prepare foods designated for cooking
- follow menu in preparing meals
- follow recipes in cooking meals
- clean, stock, and restock workstation and supply area
- follow personal sanitation standards before, during, and after cooking food
- order and take delivery of food and supplies
- comply with nutrition and sanitary regulations and safety standards
- maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers and clients
- keep abreast of new ideas in the field
