Job Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination by background investigation
  • Personnel security investigation required
  • Consent to seasonal influenza vaccinations or provide recognized exemption
  • Pre-placement medical examination required
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Immunization screening required including Hepatitis B for direct patient contact
  • Ability to work irregular hours including evenings weekends holidays
  • Designated as Inclement Weather Essential and Mission Essential
  • Physical effort includes continual standing walking frequent stooping reaching pushing pulling and bending
  • Exposure to kitchen hazards such as heat steam and sharp objects
  • Willingness to work full-time permanent schedule

Job Qualifications

  • US citizen
  • Ability to do the work of a cook without more than normal supervision
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques including developing recipes
  • Ability to read and understand food labels work instructions and metric conversion tables
  • Knowledge of special and modified diets
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety standards
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
  • Dexterity and safety consciousness
  • Knowledge of materials
  • Understanding of technical practices including theoretical precise and artistic aspects
  • Ability to keep work areas neat clean and orderly

Job Duties

  • Prepare menu items requiring multiple steps ingredients and preparation times for special events
  • Cook all types of meats poultry seafood vegetables fruits sauces and gravies for regular and modified diet menus for entire meals
  • Test and evaluate new food products and recipes
  • Wash heavy pots pans dishes trays and service ware manually or using mechanical equipment
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties in the kitchen areas
