Job Requirements

  • appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination as determined by a completed background investigation

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to do the work of a cook without more than normal supervision
  • knowledge of food preparation techniques including techniques and procedures for developing recipes
  • ability to read and understand food labels, work instructions and metric conversion tables
  • knowledge of special and modified diets
  • knowledge of kitchen safety standards
  • ability to interpret instructions and specifications
  • ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
  • dexterity and safety awareness
  • knowledge of materials
  • understanding of technical practices including theoretical, precise, and artistic aspects
  • adherence to work practices including keeping things neat, clean, and in order

Job Duties

  • Prepare menu items requiring multiple steps, ingredients, and preparation times for special events
  • cook all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies for regular and modified diet menus for entire meals
  • test and evaluate new food products and recipes
  • wash heavy pots, pans, dishes, trays and service ware, manually or using mechanical equipment
  • perform a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties in the kitchen areas
