Job Requirements

  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, balance, reach, and twist as needed
  • Willingness to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, some holidays and weekends
  • Passing criminal, driving, education, and employment background checks
  • Successful completion of physical exam, drug, and alcohol tests
  • Ability to work in a secure juvenile detention facility environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food preparation and cooking
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to follow standardized or revised recipes
  • Basic math skills for portion control and inventory management
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work under supervision and follow safety procedures

Job Duties

  • Plan, prepare, and cook meats, soups, vegetables, sauces, and gravies, salads, and desserts
  • Check food for appearance and taste
  • Serve meals using proper portion control and acceptable serving methods
  • Carve and display meats, vegetables, salads, and desserts
  • Plan for proper utilization of overproduced foods
  • Operate, clean, and maintain cooking utensils and related equipment
  • Ensure equipment is operational
  • Maintain cleanliness and safe working conditions in the kitchen in accordance with Health Department standards
  • Ensure proper storage of food and supplies
  • Store and rotate perishable and nonperishable food
  • Monitor inventory of food supply
  • Set dishes and dining room equipment in proper storage
  • Receive and monitor kitchen deliveries
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
