Job Requirements

  • Sufficient previous experience in large scale food preparation
  • Knowledge of cooking methods and procedures, including types of preparation and related routines
  • Ability to work varying 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday between 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM with weekend and holiday requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate tools, reach with hands and arms, stoop and lift or move objects up to 75 pounds
  • Position requires normal or corrected vision
  • Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of related experience
  • Training in institutional food preparation
  • Prior restaurant kitchen experience
  • Knowledge of cooking methods and procedures, including types of preparation and related routines

Job Duties

  • Review menus and special orders to determine types and quantities of food items to be obtained and prepared
  • Follow standardized recipes in preparation of all foods
  • Plan cooking schedules with a supervisor and/or dietitian
  • Ensure that all foods are prepared to meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance
  • Confer with dietitians regarding modified diet preparation and use of leftovers
  • Adhere to HACCP guidelines in food storage, food handling, food preparation, sanitation and maintenance of work area
  • Ensure that all cooking equipment and utensils are inspected and maintained for cleanliness and proper orientation
  • Detect and report spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies and equipment and other unusual conditions
