Job Description

The Child Development Center at Joint Base Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina is seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker to join its team. Job Requirements

  • Complete background investigation with favorable results
  • Pass pre-employment physical examination including lifting requirements
  • Obtain and maintain current immunizations including annual influenza and other required vaccines
  • Complete assigned food handler training within specified time
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, and bend frequently
  • Maintain pediatric first aid and CPR certification
  • Adhere to hygiene policies including wearing hair net
  • Demonstrate dependability and ability to complete tasks within deadlines
  • Possess valid Real ID driver's license for base entry
  • Completion of employment verification and possible probationary period
  • Agree to direct deposit payment

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in food preparation at grills, snack bars, restaurants, clubs or similar food activities
  • Knowledge of food preparation principles and characteristics of foods
  • Ability to plan and coordinate cooking to ensure meals are prepared and served on time
  • Skill in performing yield testing and adjusting recipes accordingly
  • Knowledge of food ordering, issuing, and storage procedures
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally over 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for extended periods
  • Completion or ability to obtain Food Handler's Certificate
  • Up-to-date immunizations including annual influenza, DT, HEB A, HEB B, Varicella, and MMR

Job Duties

  • Roast, broil, bake, fry, boil, steam, and stew meats, fish and poultry
  • Prepare soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces and puddings without packaged mixes
  • Adjust standardized recipes for number of servings and perform yield testing
  • Prepare cold food platters such as ham, salmon, and roast beef platters, salads and hors d'oeuvres
  • Mix and prepare cold sauces, meat glazes, molded aspics, and salad dressings
  • Carve vegetables and fruits as garnishes
  • Plan cooking processes to produce complete meals on time and at proper temperature
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
