Job Requirements
- Appointment subject to suitability or fitness determination by background investigation
- mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination unless exempted
- immunization screening including hepatitis B required
- moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds
- pre-employment physical examination and annual follow-ups
- shift work including evenings, weekends and holidays with rotating schedules
- on-call work during irregular hours may be required
- designated as Inclement Weather and Mission Essential requiring reporting during severe conditions
- protective shoes required

Job Qualifications
- Ability to perform the work of a cook without more than normal supervision
- skilled in preparing large quantities of menu items
- able to utilize recipes or other instructions to prepare food
- experienced in operating a variety of food preparation and cooking equipment and utensils
- able to work under the supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks for proper completion
- capable of prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing
- able to lift moderately heavy objects up to forty pounds
- knowledge of safety protocols to avoid kitchen-related injuries
Job Duties
- Prepare large quantities or individual portions of regular, modified and special diet menu items
- cook foods including entrees, starches and vegetables from recipes or other instructions
- operate food preparation and cooking equipment that use electricity, gas, steam and microwave heat sources
- store leftover foods in accordance with food safety guidelines
- follow safety and sanitation procedures required for food handling work
