Job Requirements
- Must successfully complete a background investigation with favorable results
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination
- Must maintain current immunizations including annual influenza vaccination
- Must obtain and maintain a Food Handler's Certificate within specified timeframe
- Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally more
- Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend
- Must comply with sanitation, safety and USDA standards
- Must possess or obtain required certifications as directed by supervisor
- Must be able to work full-time with flexible hours
- Must be able to demonstrate good customer service skills and work cooperatively with others
- Must hold a real ID driver's license for access to JB Charleston AFB
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or owe allegiance to the U.S.
- Must register for Selective Service if applicable
- Must agree to direct deposit for payroll
- Must pass employment verification (E-Verify)
- May be subject to a probationary period
- Must satisfactorily meet all pre-employment requirements before Entrance on Duty
Job Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation principles and characteristics of food
- Knowledge of planning processes to ensure meals are prepared and cooked on time
- Ability to perform yield testing to determine portion cost and adjust recipes accordingly
- Knowledge of food ordering, issuing and storage procedures
- Experience working in grills, snack bars, restaurants, clubs or similar food service environments
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods
- Ability to complete required food handlers certification and training
- Knowledge of USDA requirements and portion control
- Demonstrates dependability and efficient work planning
- Ability to maintain hygiene and safety standards in food preparation areas
Job Duties
- Roasts, broils, bakes, fries, boils, steams and stews meats, fish and poultry
- Prepares soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces and puddings without packaged mixes
- Adjusts standardized recipes for number of servings and performs yield testing
- Prepares cold food platters such as ham, salmon and roast beef platters, salads and hors d'oeuvres
- Mixes and prepares cold sauces, meat glazes, molded aspics and salad dressings
- Carves vegetables and fruits as garnishes for food platters and dishes
- Plans the cooking process to produce complete meals on time and at the proper temperature
- Responsible for the safe use and care of kitchen equipment
- Maintains sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen
- Performs other related duties as assigned
