Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One year food preparation experience preferably in a high volume restaurant, hotel or healthcare kitchen preferred
  • One year culinary experience preferred
  • Allergen Awareness Certification - VA State - ANSI-approved within 180 days required
  • Food Handlers Card - VA State - ANSI-approved within 30 days required, or Food Protection Manager Certification - VA State - ANSI-approved required
  • Ability to work labor pool shifts between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm including rotating weeks, weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of food safety, infection control and sanitation requirements
  • Ability to follow therapeutic menus and allergy guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One year of food preparation experience preferably in a high volume restaurant, hotel or healthcare kitchen preferred
  • One year of culinary experience preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to follow therapeutic and allergy dietary guidelines
  • Competence in food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment use
  • Positive interpersonal skills for teamwork and customer service

Job Duties

  • Prepare food items for both patient and non-patient food services following production plans, recipes and cooking instructions
  • Maintain knowledge of food safety, infection control and sanitation regulatory compliance requirements and department policies
  • Comply with food temperature, quality, sanitation and storage guidelines at all key process steps
  • Ensure availability of information and provide positive interactions contributing to memorable food and dining experiences
  • Follow therapeutic menus and allergy guidelines to provide quality nutritional care within physician orders
  • Prepare special request food items and complete various prep work such as slicing deli meat, chopping vegetables, preparing salads and sandwiches, grill cooking and specialty pizza preparation
  • Use kitchen equipment appropriately and maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas
