Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year experience as a cook in hospital or long term care
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and technical procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and staff
  • Ability to apply mathematical reasoning to practical situations
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
  • Obtain and maintain ServSafe Certificate
  • Knowledge of PCC preferred
  • Compliance with Department of Public Health standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year experience as a cook in a hospital or long term care facility
  • Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes
  • Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certificate
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred
  • Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health

Job Duties

  • Maintain kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean and sanitary manner
  • Prepare tasteful meals and cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • Follow prepared menus and portion control guides accurately
  • Prepare special diets and pureed foods
  • Record food temperatures for meals
  • Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel in all departments
  • Maintain quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets
  • Assist with serving meals and cleaning cooking area and serving carts
  • Report resident care concerns to Administrator and/or Director of Nurses
  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff
  • Make food presentation appealing to residents
  • Supervise in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor
  • Ensure all cleaning schedules are followed
