Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous cooking experience in large quantity food preparation preferred
  • Ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to maintain sanitation and safety standards
  • Successful completion of background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening

Job Qualifications

  • Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Must possess ability to make independent decisions when necessary
  • Must possess tact in dealing with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public
  • Must be knowledgeable of food procedures
  • Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Must maintain care and use of supplies, equipment, cleanliness, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, and safety
  • Must possess ability to seek out new methods and incorporate them into food practices
  • Must successfully complete background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening

Job Duties

  • Inspect special diet trays to assure correct diet is served to residents
  • Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms and reports and submit to the Director of Food Services
  • Coordinate food service with other departments as necessary
  • Work with the facility’s dietitian and implement recommended changes as required
  • Ensure all food procedures are followed according to established policies
  • Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus
  • Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance
  • Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures
  • Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus
  • Prepare food according to standardized recipes and special diet orders
