Job Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age
  • high school diploma preferred
  • previous experience working as a cook in an institutional setting
  • must have criminal record clearance
  • able to operate standard cooking equipment and utensils safely
  • able to work flexible hours including holidays, evenings, and weekends
  • able to read, write and speak English effectively
  • able to maintain required certifications including First Aid, CPR, and Food Handler’s
  • able to respond to resident concerns with professionalism and care
  • must maintain a safe and sanitary work environment
  • able to follow company policies and local, state regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age
  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • six months experience as a cook in a restaurant or similar environment preferred
  • able to operate standard cooking equipment and utensils
  • knowledge of assisted living and dementia care preferred
  • able to work patiently with seniors and cognitively impaired individuals
  • able to operate office equipment including copier, telephone, postage machine
  • able to adapt, make decisions, and prioritize tasks
  • excellent English language skills for effective communication
  • highly motivated and able to work independently
  • able to obtain and maintain valid First Aid, CPR, and Food Handler’s certification as needed
  • previous institutional cooking experience required
  • must have criminal record clearance

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook all food items and meals in accordance with planned menus and recipes
  • assist in food preparation for special meals, parties, events
  • prepare soups, appetizers, entrees, vegetables, side dishes, and desserts for regular and special diets
  • prepare substitute foods for residents who refuse served foods
  • make authorized food substitutions and advise Executive Chef or Sous Chef
  • ensure food and serving comply with sanitary regulations and policies
  • report incidents or infractions to Sous Chef or Executive Chef
  • inspect special diet requests and orders
  • coordinate food production timing with meal serving hours
  • maintain control over meal portions and food consistency
  • estimate food requirements and control portions to eliminate waste
  • stock and thaw next day’s items under refrigeration
  • open or close kitchen according to schedule
  • ensure timely arrival and notify supervisor of call offs, tardiness, absences
  • assist in purchasing, inventory, checking and storing food and supplies
  • maintain stock levels of food, supplies, equipment
  • work with Sous Chef and Executive Chef to specify and select food products
  • keep food storage areas clean and organized
  • perform cleaning duties assigned by Sous Chef or Executive Chef
  • maintain sanitary work environment and conform to local codes
  • dispose food and waste per company policy
  • label, date, and store kitchen inventory efficiently
  • record cooler and freezer temperatures
  • respond to resident concerns professionally
  • maintain safe and secure environment following safety procedures
  • complete monthly training and maintain certifications
  • work flexible hours including holidays, evenings, weekends
  • foster teamwork and cooperate with other departments
  • support marketing efforts with positive interactions
  • report any observed resident condition changes
  • comply with federal and state regulations
  • attend daily department meetings
  • perform other assigned duties
