Job Requirements

  • Four years of previous culinary experience or associate’s degree in a related culinary field and one year of previous culinary experience or culinary certificate and two years of culinary experience
  • Current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and work independently
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of food service routines and food safety
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills including electronic email and MS Office applications
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift weights as required
  • Must comply with health and safety standards
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality
  • Flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays.

Job Qualifications

  • Preferred high school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification required
  • Preferred ServSafe Manager Certification

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Customer service experience in a fast-paced, stressful environment
  • Knowledge of food safety and handling
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills including email and MS Office applications
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in a patient room service and cafeteria setting
  • Experience with high volume and line cooking preferred.

Job Duties

  • Prepare food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment
  • Follow recipe cards, production, portion, and presentation standards
  • Prepare a wide variety of daily food items for hot line patient room service and cafeteria using standardized recipes
  • Utilize food cooking techniques such as braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, and grilling
  • Complete mis en place and set-up station for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner service
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas including surfaces, floors, walls, and equipment in compliance with health standards
  • Operate, maintain, and properly clean kitchen equipment including mixers, blenders, slicers, ovens, fryers, and grills
  • Date all food containers and rotate supplies according to health department food codes
  • Monitor inventory of food products to manage costs and ensure adequate supplies
  • Return unused food items to designated storage areas, covering and dating perishables
  • Assist in plans to correct food cost problems, control waste, and improve usage
  • Monitor quality and customer feedback of food items
  • Establish and maintain communication with food service caregivers to meet service needs
  • Interpret weights, measures and pricing accurately
  • Provide training to new employees as needed
  • Utilize computer applications and MS Office tools for communication and record-keeping
  • Support other areas of food service including food delivery as directed
  • Promote Lean principles of continuous improvement
  • Maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests
  • Conduct activities with professionalism and confidentiality
  • Deliver timely, efficient, and accurate customer service
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
