Job Requirements
- Must have current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification
- Four years of previous culinary experience or associate's degree in related culinary field plus one year experience or culinary certificate plus two years experience
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Ability to stand and walk continuously for long periods
- Ability to lift and carry between 1-50 pounds occasionally
- Basic arithmetic skills
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work independently in patient room service and café
- Intermediate knowledge of food safety and handling
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Current Deschutes County Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Food Handler Certification required
- ServSafe Manager Certification preferred
- Four years of previous culinary experience or associate's degree in a related culinary field plus one year of culinary experience or culinary certificate plus two years of culinary experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication
- Customer service skills especially in fast paced environments
- Intermediate knowledge of food service routines, food safety and handling
- Basic to intermediate ability with computer applications, electronic mail and MS Office
- Ability to multitask and work independently
Job Duties
- Prepare food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment
- Follow recipe cards as well as production, portion, and presentation standards
- Prepare a wide variety of daily food items for hot line patient room service and café utilizing standard recipes
- Utilize food cooking techniques such as braising, roasting, sautéing, frying and grilling
- Complete mis en place and set-up station for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner service
- Maintain clean and organized work areas including work surfaces, floors, walls, and equipment
- Operate, maintain and properly clean standard kitchen equipment including commercial mixers, blenders, food processors, slicers, knives, ovens, fryers, grills and other equipment
- Date all food containers and rotate as per policies following health department food code
- Check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull and line setup
- Monitor inventory of food products to reduce costs and maximize space utilization
- Return unused food items to designated storage areas covering and dating perishables
- Assist in plans and actions to correct food cost problems, control waste and food loss
- Implement steps to correct quality issues ensuring highest food quality
- Monitor quality and customer feedback
- Establish and maintain strong communication with food service caregivers
- Accurately interpret weights, measures, and pricing
- Provide training to new employees
- Utilize computer applications, electronic email and MS Office
- Support other food service areas as directed
- Support organizational vision, mission and values
- Champion Lean principles of continuous improvement
- Maintain safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests
- Conduct all activities with professionalism and confidentiality
- Deliver timely, efficient and accurate customer service
- Perform additional related duties as required
