Job Requirements

  • No formal education required
  • Minimum one year experience as a cook (Cook 1)
  • Three years experience as a cook (Cook 2)
  • Prior experience in an institutional setting preferred but not mandatory
  • Must obtain State of Alaska Food Workers Card or Serve Safe certification within 30 days
  • Must obtain Certified Food Protection Manager certification within six months (Cook 2)
  • Successful completion of a negative drug screen for illegal substances before employment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred (Cook 1 and Cook 2)
  • One year experience as a cook in an institutional setting preferred (Cook 1)
  • Three years experience as a cook preferred (Cook 2)
  • Previous institutional kitchen experience preferred
  • Ability to obtain State of Alaska Food Workers Card or Serve Safe certification within 30 days
  • Ability to obtain Certified Food Protection Manager certification within six months (Cook 2)

Job Duties

  • Prepare hot and cold meals according to therapeutic diets
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are upheld
  • Support cafeteria service and cater to special events
  • Coordinate daily kitchen operations (Cook 2)
  • Lead and support dietary staff performance (Cook 2)
  • Assist supervisors in implementing safety standards and protocols (Cook 2)
  • Maintain efficiency and high service quality in the kitchen
