The Child Development Center at Joint Base Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina is seeking to hire a dedicated and hardworking Food Service Worker. Job Requirements

  • Must complete a background investigation with favorable results
  • Must complete a favorable pre-employment physical
  • Must maintain current immunizations including annual influenza vaccinations
  • Must complete assigned training including Food Handler certification within specified time
  • Must pass employment verification (E-Verify)
  • Must have a real ID driver's license for employment and base entry
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods
  • Must be able to lift frequently up to 40 pounds and occasionally over 40 pounds
  • Must follow safety and sanitation guidelines including wearing hair net and proper hygiene
  • Must prepare meals and food orders according to established standards
  • Direct deposit is required

Job Qualifications

  • Open to everyone
  • Experience in food preparation principles and characteristics of foods
  • Knowledge of planning processes to ensure meals are cooked on time
  • Ability to perform yield testing and adjust recipes
  • Knowledge of food ordering, issuing, and storage procedures
  • Experience gained in grill, snack bar, restaurant, club, or similar food services
  • Physically able to lift up to 40 pounds frequently
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must obtain a Food Handler's Certificate or complete training
  • Must maintain required immunizations
  • Some federal jobs allow education substitution
  • Foreign education accepted with proof of equivalency

Job Duties

  • Roasts, broils, bakes, fries, boils, steams and stews meats, fish and poultry
  • Prepares soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces, and puddings without the use of packaged mixes
  • Adjusts standardized recipes for number of servings and performs yield testing
  • Prepares cold food platters such as ham, salmon, roast beef, salads, and hors d'oeuvres
  • Mixes and prepares cold sauces, meat glazes, molded aspics, and salad dressings
  • Carves vegetables and fruits as garnishes for food platters and dishes
  • Plans and coordinates the cooking process to produce complete meals on time and at the proper temperature
  • Maintains kitchen safety and sanitation standards
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
