Job Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and eligible driving record based on HHSC policy
- Texas food handler training required
- Food Protection Manager Certification required within six months of hire
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
- Ability to work on feet for extended periods and in hot or cold conditions
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to complete basic math used in cooking
- Ability to pass fingerprint background, drug screen, and registry checks
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and variable shifts
- Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent is preferred
- One year of food preparation work experience, including hot and cold food preparation
- Experience in a healthcare food service operation preferred
- Experience guiding, training, or overseeing others preferred
- Knowledge of food preparation methods, specialized diets, and sanitation regulations
- Skill in cooking, baking, and use of food preparation equipment
- Ability to follow recipes and calculate food quantities
- Ability to lead and train others in food service operations
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments with time constraints
Job Duties
- Performs advanced technical food production tasks
- Provides shift leadership and direction during meal preparation and service
- Oversees preparation, cooking, portioning, and serving of regular and modified diets
- Ensures food handling and storage follow federal and state guidelines
- Reviews and adjusts menus and recipes as needed
- Inspects dining and kitchen areas for sanitation compliance
- Monitors inventory and records food consumption
- Reports equipment and supply needs
- Trains and supervises subordinates in food preparation, sanitation, and safety
- Drives delivery vehicle as required
- Participates in disaster response and continuity of operations activities
